Department of Defense (DOD) Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (COOL) is an extensive inter-Service collaboration to facilitate credentialing of Service members.
The Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard each have their own Service-specific COOL programs designed to match military occupations to civilian credentials (occupational certifications, licenses, and apprenticeships) and provide resources to help Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen attain these credentials.
The GI Bill covers tuition, costs of national tests, licensing and certifications as well as prep courses, even if you’re already receiving other education benefits. VA will approve reimbursement for prep courses for already approved certifications and exams only.
Federal employees can utilize unit or organizational funds, including training budgets, to cover the cost of civilian certifications that enhance their current role, MOS, AFSC, or Rate. There are no restrictions based on rank or active duty status, provided leadership approves the use of organizational funds.
